Ohio’s Iconic Basket Landmark Hits the Market for $5.7 Million đŸ§ș

Source: DDN

An iconic piece of Ohio history is up for grabs the former Longaberger Homestead near Newark, once home to the famous basket company, is listed for $5.7 million. Spanning 15 acres, the property includes retail buildings, a restaurant space, and the founder’s original home.

Built in 1999 and sitting vacant for a decade, it once symbolized the peak of the Longaberger Company, which employed over 8,000 people and became known for its one-of-a-kind “basket” headquarters. Now, the site stands as a reminder of Ohio’s creative manufacturing past and a potential opportunity for whoever decides to weave the next chapter of its story.

Back on Second—The Flavor House: Gumbo, Po’ Boys, Jerk 🍗

After a winter pause and a stint serving from their event center, partners Demetrius Wright and Joey Williams have brought their Caribbean-creole hub back downtown—now operating as The Flavor House—inside the brick-lined former Table 33 at 130 W Second St, steps from the Schuster Center. The room feels celebratory: warm wood, brass light, and the soundtrack they’ve always promised—Caribbean rhythms and neighborly chatter.

October’s soft-opening week restored lunch, then dinner and carryout. Menu hits return in a tighter, service-friendly format—gumbo, po’ boys, jerk-leaning specials—while the mission stays the same: good vibes, generous plates, and downtown pride.

Steam & serenity — Linh’s Bistro 😋

A gentle rush of star anise and basil greets you at Linh’s Bistro, the family-run Vietnamese mainstay tucked along the Page Manor strip at 5532 Airway Rd in Dayton. Bowls of pho arrive with clean, fragrant broth; bun bĂČ Huáșż brings deeper heat; and fresh spring rolls, rice plates, and wok-fired stir-fries bridge Vietnamese and Chinese comfort.

The dining space is unpretentious—clinking porcelain, quick smiles, and steady carryout—reflecting a neighborhood fixture that’s evolved over years while keeping its heart. It’s the kind of spot where the broth tells the story.

La Colombiana’s Sun-Bright Flavors 🍣

Plantain-sweet aromas and the sizzle of chorizo spill from La Colombiana Restaurante, tucked at 2495 Commons Blvd in Beavercreek, where family photos and bright flags frame a menu of homey classics. Bandeja paisa arrives layered with rice, beans, fried egg, avocado, and chicharrĂłn; steaming sancocho leans hearty with yucca and corn; and golden empanadas crackle beside aji for dipping.

Share a picada platter or keep it simple with arroz con pollo and natural juices or Colombian sodas. Counter-warm service, generous plates, and weekend energy make it a welcome escape minutes from Fairfield Commons.

Dayton Takes Flight Again 🚁

Source: DDN

Joby Aviation has officially started producing propeller blades in Dayton the same city where the Wright brothers made aviation history. The California based company chose Dayton for its skilled workforce and close network of aerospace suppliers, allowing it to produce up to 15,000 blades a year for its electric air taxis.

The site could eventually build up to 500 aircraft annually, bringing high-tech manufacturing jobs and innovation back to the birthplace of flight. Joby’s expansion marks a major step toward quiet, electric, vertical takeoff aircraft becoming part of everyday travel and it’s all taking shape in Ohio’s new era of aviation.

$1 Million on the Line: Sinclair and Clark State Recognized for Powering Ohio’s Economy 💰

Source: bizjournals.com/dayton

Two local colleges just earned a major nod that ties directly to our region’s economy. Sinclair Community College and Clark State College were both named among only 200 schools in the running for the $1 million Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence often called the “Oscars” of higher education.

The award recognizes colleges that actually deliver results: high graduation rates, strong job placement, and real career advancement. Sinclair’s leadership says the honor reflects its commitment to moving students into the workforce faster, while Clark State points to programs designed around local employer needs. For our region, it’s a sign that affordable education is fueling economic growth and keeping talent close to home.
