Ohio Lawmakers Approve $2.4 Billion Plan to Cut Soaring Property Taxes 🏠

Source: DDN

The Ohio House just approved two major bills that would deliver $2.4 billion in property tax relief to homeowners statewide. The first measure caps how much school district taxes can rise saving an estimated $1.7 billion while the second limits “inside millage” taxes used by cities and counties, cutting costs by up to $760 million.

Lawmakers say the move aims to protect homeowners from soaring tax bills driven by rising property values, with changes expected to show up on 2026 tax statements if the Senate signs off.

Fresh at Dawn: Real-Butter Croissants—Boosalis Centerville đŸ„

Morning light catches the cases at Boosalis Baking & CafĂ©, where the whisper of laminated dough and espresso steam sets Centerville’s pace. Inside the Cross Pointe center at 175 E Alex Bell Rd #280, golden croissants, glossy kouign-amann, and jam-brushed danishes share space with baguettes, panini, soups, and salads.

Everything is baked in-house with real butter and eggs, made fresh each morning—a point of pride the team repeats often. Counter service, quick lines, and Parisian crumbs, lead plenty of neighborhood regulars through the doors of Boosalis, Tuesday—Sunday.

Tikka Masala & Naan 😋

Downtown’s spice beacon hums at Gulzar’s Indian Cuisine, where the aroma of ginger and garlic greets you inside 217 N Patterson Blvd. The menu balances North-Indian comfort with Indo-Chinese sizzle: creamy saag paneer, crisp-edged gobi Manchurian, and a crowd-favorite chicken tikka masala.

Warm naan and basmati anchor the plates, while mango or rose lassi cool things down—and there’s chai when cozy is the mood. Fast-casual ease with table service, online reservations, and catering keeps weekday lunches and group outings simple in the city’s core.

Full Bar, Pies & Pasta 🍝

On East Fifth’s brick run, Jimmy’s Italian Cuisine & Bar brings red-sauce comfort to downtown. Opened in 2024 by the Jusufi family—longtime operators of Kettering’s Jimmy’s—this roomy spot at 824 E 5th St hums with the scent of garlic and simmering tomato.

The menu is filled with classics and crowd-pleasers: hand-tossed pies, pepperoni rolls, chicken parmigiana, and fresh, made-to-order pastas, with seafood turns like shrimp fra diavola and veal marsala. A full bar, TVs, and easy online ordering make it a weeknight staple and game-day hang—neighborly, hearty, unmistakably Dayton.

New Owner Bets Big on Dayton Mall’s Comeback 💰

Source: Yahoo

Hull Property Group, a Georgia-based firm known for reviving struggling malls, has purchased the Dayton Mall in Miami Township. The company, which owns over 30 shopping centers nationwide, plans to partner with local leaders to breathe new life into the 1.4 million sqft property.

While the sale price wasn’t disclosed, Hull’s track record of turning fading retail spaces into thriving community hubs has local officials optimistic. The redevelopment could spark new jobs, attract modern tenants, and reenergize one of the region’s most recognizable commercial landmarks signaling a fresh chapter for Dayton’s retail economy.

Cincinnati led late but surrendered 23 fourth-quarter points, including a 4-yard halfback pass from Breece Hall to Mason Taylor with 1:54 left, as the Jets nabbed their first win.

Joe Flacco threw two TDs; Cincinnati fell to 3–5. A gut-punch at Paycor that tightens the AFC North race.

Patriots 32, Browns 13 — Garrett’s 5 sacks can’t save Cleveland
Myles Garrett was historic with a five-sack afternoon, but rookie Drake Maye tossed three third-quarter touchdowns as New England pulled away in Foxborough.

Cleveland dropped to 2–6 despite early leads and two Dillon Gabriel TDs. The Browns head to a bye with QB questions and defensive positives to build on.

UD withholds Iona transfer Adam Njie amid NCAA-notified review
Dayton announced Oct. 26 it’s withholding Iona transfer guard Adam Njie from competition due to eligibility matters that occurred before his enrollment, after being notified by the NCAA.

Sports Illustrated reports Njie’s case is connected to the broader college-basketball gambling investigation; it’s unclear whether federal authorities are involved. Njie averaged 12.2 points and 4.2 assists last season.
