From Empty Giant to Downtown Jewel: Centre City’s $110M Comeback 🏢

bizjournals.com/dayton
Downtown Dayton’s Centre City Building, once the tallest in the city and empty for over a decade, is finally set for a major comeback. Built in 1904, the 21-story tower will undergo a $110 million renovation that brings more than 200 new apartments, 11,000 square feet of retail space, and a 400-car garage.
The City of Dayton has committed $6 million to prepare the site, while the Montgomery County Port Authority added financing support, including a $750,000 loan. Construction is already underway, with completion expected by June 2027. This project not only revives a historic landmark but also fuels downtown’s ongoing revitalization, adding fresh housing, shops, and energy to the city’s core.

Hidden Gems
Smoky Bolivian Rotisserie—Nelly’s Centerville 🥩

Source: nellysbolivia.com
Walk into 79 S Main St in Uptown Centerville and you’ll feel the heat first charcoal snapping beneath a slow-turning rotisserie as ribbons of smoke drift through a color-splashed room. Welcome to Nelly’s—A Taste of Bolivia. Laughter threads through the music while the Santillan family sends out rotisserie chicken they’ve marinated and roasted over coals to a gentle, smoky finish, alongside hearty Bolivian staples.
Their menu highlights include Pique Macho, a feast of steak, sausage, fries, and egg brightened with vinaigrette, and Silpancho, breaded beef layered over rice and fries with a soft egg on top. Music hums, platters crowd the table, and the grill turns like a metronome for memory.

Japanese + Spanish, One Kitchen 🍱

Happy hour swells into a late evening buzz at SushiNero, the Japanese-and-Spanish kitchen opened in 2024 where sashimi meets tapas under soft glow. At 20 S 1st St in historic Miamisburg, the team mixes precision and play: Japanese Fried Chicken with shiso bright ponzu, Korean Fried Chicken lacquered in gochujang, and Hamachi crudo laced with citrus and heat.
The sushi bar rolls faithful classics alongside house riffs, while Sapporo on draft, approachable wines, and a rotating sake forward cocktail list keep things easy. Date night slides into group gatherings without missing a beat an easy, lively mashup. Miamisburg’s cross cultural spark, well-plated.

All-Day, From-Scratch In Yellow Springs 🍣

Source: sunrisecafe.net
At 259 Xenia Ave in downtown Yellow Springs, Sunrise Café is the village’s day-to-night gathering spot bright, friendly, and proudly from-scratch. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner run all day, seven days a week (7:30am–9pm). Menu highlights span a Kimchi & pepperjack omelet, a Wagyu sirloin crowned with caramelized onion–gorgonzola butter, and salmon seared and finished with a lavender–honey drizzle.
The ethos is simple: “Local. From scratch. With love.” Coffee hums, chatter drifts from the front windows to the back booths, and the welcome feels as steady as the griddle a village table where good food and good mood meet.
